Chestnuts Dental is a long established family practice serving the local community in Long Ashton, and those further afield in Bristol and the surrounding area.

Chestnuts Dental moved to our current premises in 1996, and have been in Long Ashton for nearly 80 years.

We are registered with the General Dental Council and recognised by the Care Quality Commission.

Our Dentists

Martin Smith

Martin Smith

Martin has worked at the Chestnuts for the last 22 years. He has given up his role at the Dental Hospital in Bristol (where he had worked for the last 20 years), so that he can focus on the practice following the retirement of Paul Martin. He enjoys the balance of running and owning a business together with carrying out dentistry.

A question was asked…… The answer is that he’s not going to stop dentistry for a while!

He graduated from Bristol University in 1998. He has worked as a Speciality Doctor in Oral medicine, Special care dentistry and Conservation at Bristol Dental Hospital.

Jon Moore

Jon graduated from Bristol University in 1986 and is a partner in a practice in Coleford. Jon is the longest standing member of staff and has been with practice since 1993.

He is a delightful character-if you ask him (or not) he will tell you a good story!

Ian Walker

Ian worked in North Bristol for nearly 30 years. During this time, he was a partner in a small group of practices and a foundation trainer for 17 years.

He graduated from Bristol University in 1992 and gained his Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies in 2002. He has undertaken further training throughout his career, gaining an MSc from King’s College London in aesthetic dentistry, as well as other postgraduate training courses.

Ian has special interest in minimally invasive aesthetic work and adult orthodontic treatment.

Harriet Wilson

Harriet graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2021 with the Dentsply Prize for Clinical Excellence (Certificate of Merit). Since then, Harriet has pursued further Postgraduate Dental Core Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative, and Paediatric Dentistry at University Hospital Bristol.

A strong commitment to continuous learning is central to her professional ethos. Harriet has successfully completed the MFDS examination, earning Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow).

Harriet takes great pride in her empathetic and approachable nature, always striving to build strong relationships with her patients and colleagues alike. Her focus is on delivering the highest standard of care and treatment to every patient.

Outside of dentistry, Harriet is an avid sports enthusiast, playing hockey and tennis, alongside running and the gym. She also loves travelling, skiing, and is a massive foodie, currently working her way through Bristol’s many restaurants!

Rebecca Harrison

Rebecca graduated from Bristol in 2016 and has worked in general practice in Durham and the South West. She then worked in the Dental Hospital on the Urgent Department during the Pandemic, and has stayed there part time to teach the undergraduates.

At Long Ashton, she enjoys working with children of all ages, and nervous patients to provide reassurance and build up confidence 🙂

Dr Fleur Gately

Fleur graduated from Bristol Dental School in 2010. She went on to do three years training in Manchester, London and Bristol before becoming a Specialty Dentist in Oral Surgery.

She has 10 years of experience in this role at Bristol Dental Hospital where she is also involved in postgraduate dental training.

Her special interest is dental extractions for patients who are anxious and need extra reassurance.

Our Hygienists

Our team of hygienists work closely with the dentists ensuring that gum health is maintained and aiding in its prevention.
